Near nature, near perfect. What an inspirational slogan for our little city to have! And here is yet another movement formulated to get people outside to enjoy more of it. May 16-20th is Bike to Work Week Spokane. I was tickled pink when I first saw the flier in a bus on my way to work a few years ago. "What a splendid idea!" I thought. I am proud to live in a city where people care enough to get together and set such a great example. This is a movement I hope gets as big as Bloomsday. Not only does it encourage people to rely less on oil it can save your household a lot of money and it's great for the environment. It also helps support Spokane Transit and all of their amazing employees. Bike to work or bike to a bus stop, ride for $1.50 and then ride some more. This is an opportunity to see how fluid our public transport system is. For those, like myself, who do not own their own vehicle Spokane Transit has gotten me where I need to go every time, on time. It gives the public affordable access to schools, universities, hospitals, Geiger Airport , Park and Ride lots, surrounding cities and all my favorite summer hot spots including access to the Centennial Trail and Minnehaha. STA buses are equipped with bike racks on the front and back. It's called the Spoke-anite fever and I hope you all catch it. For those who still prefer to drive please remember to be courteous and keep an eye out on the road for our wheeled revolutionaries.
